Argentina’s biggest generator by installed capacity, Central Puerto, expects new hydropower rules to permit concessionaires to sell a chunk of their output via private contracts. That proportion could be 5% initially and would be increased in steps, potentially reaching 100%, investors were told in an earnings call. Authorities are due to offer concessions for an initial batch of five power plants on the border between Neuquén and Río Negro provinces after their original terms expired in 2023. Fellow power firm YPF Luz, currently not a hydroelectric generator, recently indicated interest. Potential foreign players may require additional guarantees to participate.
