
Operators are concerned that Telecom Argentina’s US$1.25bn acquisition of Telefónica’s operation in the country could enable the company to consolidate a dominant market position. “We’re left with a somewhat asymmetrical market, with a concentration that occurred due to the latest transactions, leaving only two operators. And this scenario, perhaps with little competition, is not the most conducive to accelerating the deployment of 5G and fiber to bring connectivity to every home,” Telecentro CEO Fernando Herrera said during a panel at the Fiber Connect event.
