The end of foreign exchange controls and the adoption of a floating exchange rate in Argentina could impact the business outlook for companies in the software and knowledge economy sectors. The persistence of currency controls has been one of the main concerns for companies in the Argentine knowledge economy, according to interviews conducted by Argencon in February. The domestic software industry is estimated to contribute an additional US$2.5bn. The United States is Argentina’s largest trading partner in the knowledge economy, accounting for over 40% of trade flows in the sector. Although recent global uncertainty related to potential Trump-era tariffs may affect the broader economy, exchange rates and Argentina’s overall competitiveness, no clear direct impact on the software industry has yet been identified.
